Bad News from Blighty!!
 
Just a quick note to bring you up to speed on things. We’ve received some e-mails from pals asking what we’ve been up to and how the weather is? I’ll take that second question first (if that make sense?) the weather for us is the same as it is for you, as we are back in Blighty. I know I know we said we wouldn’t be back for a long long time, but as we sailors know plans are like lines that are drawn in the sand at low tide. For those of you who need further clarification that means they change! Now to answer the first question. On the 30th November 2007 we received some dreadful news from Blighty, My (karen’s) younger brother Alistair (33) had been involved in a serious motobike accident. This is the sort of news we all dread and are never prepared for. When that news comes and you are in a different country the only thing you can do is return. So on the 5th December Team Stella closed the hatches, bid a sad farewell to Stella and headed for home. The day we left it was teeming with rain and the wind was howling. All good prep for coming home! After a 3 hour minibus journey, a taxi ride and two flights we arrived in Luton. The last couple of months have been very difficult for all concerned non the least for Alistair himself. But hopefully things are now on the up, he is out of hospital and making good progress. That’s not to say that he no longer needs your positive thoughts - so keep um coming mateys. We have transferred from being sea gypsies to land gypsies, calling on the hospitality of family and friends to give us a roof over our head and food in our tums. What can I say other than thank you to all of you who have helped us out. You know who you are and we are lucky to know you. Double cheers with a cherry on top mateys! You’ll be pleased to know that we plan to resume sailing the dream soon. We’ve booked to return to our gel Stella on the 11th March. That gives us about 8 days to get her ship shape for coming out of the water, so we can get scrubbing that bot of hers. I tell you there’s no rest for the wicked!!
