June Part 2

This update comes to you from live from Limnia on the island of Khios. We are wind bound readers (nothing to do with the Captain), haven’t been able to leave due to gale warnings and the big white horses we can see on the other side of the breakwater. But more about that later.

Where were we ah yes I remember the question. What happens when a southerly wind blows into Kamares bay on Kos? The answer is a very uncomfortable bumpy night (some might have used the word untenable). Luckily Captain Aldebaron had dived down to check both anchors were in. Ours had been lying on it’s side, so Captain Aldebaron/Atlantis dived down and dug it in for us! After a fairly sleepless night we decided to leave the next morning, not even the lure of beer 1.50E (for a large one) could keep us there.

Our next port of call on this two boat rally was Kalimnos town on Kalimnos (famous for sponges). Sailed on and off and we arrived mid afternoon blooming good job to as the harbour filled up very quickly. Team Stella decided to take this opportunity to check back into Greece. We were a tad nervous as by rights we should have checked into Kos. I went to the Port police armed with my various excuses, should I need them. Turns out we hadn’t checked out of Greece properly which is ILLEGAL! I did vaguely remember being told (last Summer) that we couldn’t be checked out because we hadn’t checked in! (we had shipmates but I wasn’t going to argue with a big burly Port policeman). Details details matey’s anyway the long and the short of it is we’re not in prison and we are in Greece officially.

We held up in Kalimnos for about five days as the weather turned. There was never a dull moment. Captain Aldebaron and Captain Stella put out second anchors. There were two many boats coming and going and when we saw our anchor perched on the anchor of a gullet it seemed like the sensible thing to do! We watched the shenanigans in the harbour by day and the Captains watched the shenanigans on the football pitch by night!

Just realised we have done quite a lot this month, don’t know about you but I’m gasping for a cuppa. Shall we reconvene in about half an hour, that o.k with you (definitely tooooo much sun at this end).
