There’s more! Nidri, Sivota & Sami (Kefalonia)

We spent 2 nights in Nidri (Levkas) and had a jolly good time. We met a lovely couple (Steve & Eyna) and an even lovelier toddler (Elliot). They introduced us to Nidri’s local curry house that also happens to do Chinese. We invited them on our boat because the poor dears don’t get out much!

Seadog Senior and Captain Miles felt that the boat needed another parrot (one is just not enough). So whilst out and about they bought a parrot that repeats what you say. Oh joy readers, the fun we will have with that!!

Whilst in Nidri we saw an interesting sight (not Italians, but Brits). They came along side to get some provisions. Now the general rule when you moor up is to start letting your anchor out 3 boat lengths before your reach the quay, not this lot they had an interesting method that meant they threw stern lines then dropped the anchor once they were on the quay!!

We left Nidri to head down to Sivota (bottom of Levkas) and guess what we bumped (not literally) into the short anchor Brits again. I think they may have allowed a boat length before letting the anchor go this time. Oh when you’ve been on the Ionian seas for 6 weeks you become so critical!!

Leaving Nidri we headed further South (making our way to Zakinthos). We spent 3 nights in Sami (Kefalonia). It took several attempts for us to moor up (serves me right for writing about the efforts of others). We eventually prised ourselves away from Sami, not because it was so wonderful (although it was very nice). It’s just that when your sailing the dream things like moving on are such an effort!!

We are now in Poros, had to motor here because there was absolutely no wind (apart from the Whiteley boys that is). On arrival Sea dog set about carrying on with the varnishing of our cockpit table, a job he started in Sami. It’s coming up a treat. Poros has a nice beach for swimming. Miles went for his first run in about two months. He may not go for another two months now!. In the evening we entered a quiz and came third (thanks to Sea dog). Our prize a glass bowl that held a litre of a cocktail called ‘Sex on the beach’. After demolishing that we staggered back to the boat.

Speak soon love to you all
