Farewell to crew members Burkitt & Kubokawa. Happy Birthday Captain Miles

Another hot one in Gouvia marina we packed up our trusty crew members Burkitt & Kubokawa and said our farewells as they left to return to old Blighty. Today is Captain Miles birthday I won’t mention his age other than to say 10 years ago he was 30!!!

We made a list of jobs to do and then decided it was to hot and went for a Nescafe frappe (new favourite drink, apart from the Greek wine 5 litres for 6 euros).

Whilst we are in the marina we have decided to try and sort out a bimini (sun shade), solar panel (warm beer is just so wrong), the button that keeps getting knocked whilst we are sailing along (lets the anchor down, so a bit dodgy really), SSR number (which we still haven’t put on the boat yet),Ensign (as if there would be any doubts that we are Brits) and a few other bits and bobs. I’m worn out just writing the list let alone doing anything.

By mid afternoon we had bought the ensign (then had to retire for a swim).
Managed to muster up the energy to go and talk to a man about a bimini. Very bizarre set up spoke to man in shop who called another man he appeared in shop said he would come and see us in the evening about a quote. He turned up at about 8pm gave us a quote, then took us to a cash point where we drew out 300 euros and gave it to him. I know what your thinking it’s the sort of thing you see on Crimewatch, we’ll reserve judgement on whether our Greek friend is a Crimewatch candidate or not. So in a few days time Stella Maris will either have a spanking new bimini or we will have learnt a harsh lesson. I’m confident it will be the former.

We went out for dinner (I know I know we said we’d stop eating out but it was Miles birthday) Very nice evening. We are staying on a different pontoon in the marina, we’re sort of on the runway (not the airport) the sea plane one, so each time a plane comes in or takes off we know about it. Will try and do more jobs tomorrow.

Love Karen & Miles XX

P.S to Rich & Meg cat next door had escaped and jumped ship, owners had to go looking for her, glad to say they found her. They left today, the cat said ‘looking forward to going to Athens likes the hustle and bustle of big cities’.
