Vonitsa

Well turns out we were going to Vonitsa with the Italian his Cheq lady friend, her cheq friend Hannah (lived in Greece 25 years) and our new English friend Grahame (lived in Greece 23 years). We helped the Italian set off, then were in no real rush to leave ourselves until we realised he was bobbing around waiting for us. We spoke to the people the other side of us a boat from Poole (Moody Blues) no less, as there was some debate as to whether we had crossed their anchor, as we were last in we decided that we should go first. Left the quay safely with everything in tact.

Italian friend floored it to get to Vonitsis and we tried hard to keep up. Mooring up was entertaining once again, we had English, Italian and the Germans joined in offering advice. The wind had got up so it was pretty tricky.

After that we went for a coffee with new friends minus Italian who was on a mission to get his fridge fixed. After about an hour when the wind was at it’s height Italian decided to move his boat, preparation is not a word in his vocab! He was off, it took four of us to try and fend him off of the quay, at one point we thought he was going to pivot his boat on the corner of it. That wasn’t the worst of it he was moving to come along side us when you are on the bow of your boat fending off an Italian who is muttering ‘very big problem’ as his bow is on your anchor chain you know your in trouble! Luckily the nations of Italy,England and Germany pulled together and carnage was avoided.

That was just the start of the afternoons events a flotilla of boats came in for a lunch stop, Miles, myself and the Germans were rushing to help them in. Our Italian friend was once again cooking us pasta! We had time to sit and eat this before the fun and games started again as more boats came in. The flotilla people all a bit shaken so they decided to stay the night.

Last night we went for dinner with Antonio (Italian friend) Max (Italian), two other Italians (don’t know their names) and poor Georgina Cheq lady who can’t quite believe her situation having hooked up with Antonio. She, Hannah and Graham had come for a day sail with Antonio, but because he had to wait for a part for his fridge he had decided to spend the night. This was very inconvenient for Hannah as she had to work the next day, so she and Graham had to get a taxi back to Preveza (cost about 40 euros) leaving poor smitten Georgina with Antonio and us! The food and wine were good the language mainly Italian with a smattering of English and lots and lots of smiling went on.

Ciao for now Karen & Miles XX
